Did you know... Playing risk online has been proven to increase your IQ by an average of one standard deviation. |
Rules of Risk The rules of the game are really quite simple. First, you place armies. Next, you attack adjacent countries. Last, you fortify your positions. Army Placement At the beginning of your turn, you will receive at least 3 armies to reinforce your countries. You get one bonus army for every 3 countries beyond your first 9. Continent bonuses are also very important to increasing the strength of your military. Australia and South America are each worth 2. Africa is worth 3. North America and Europe will earn you 5 extras. Asia, though a challenge to hold, pays out a 7 unit bonus. Attacking As long as you own a country with more than two armies on it, you can attack any neighboring enemy. For each attacking unit, you may roll one die up to a maximum of three dice. The defender can roll up to two dice. Highest rolls are compared against each other. In the event of a tie, the defender wins. If the attacker is victorious, he must move at least as many armies into the occupied country as the number of dice he rolled. Then, he also has the option to reinforce the new territory with more units. Fortifying After declaring an end to his attack phase, the player may move units from one territory he controls to an adjacent territory he controls. It's generally a good idea to move units from internal or rear positions up to the front lines. Putting your men on the front lines will enable them to defend against incoming attacks and launch attacks of their on your next turn. There are many different strategies in online risk so you should choose one that works best for you.
CardsIf you successfully captured at least one territory during your turn, you earn a card. The cards are exchanged for bonus armies. Three soldier, three horsemen, three cannons, or one of each is needed to make an exchange. The card values also continue to increase each time cards a traded in. There are many different rule variations in online risk, but the traditional style is to start the card values at 4. Then, each time cards are exchanged, the value increases by two up until 12. After 12, it goes to 15, then 20, then 25, 30, etc. Holding onto your cards until the values are higher is a good way to maximize their benefit. |
